Loogie the Booger Genie, Prince of Prank earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval

After pulling one too many pranks, young prince Loogar's father elicits the help of the wizard to put a stop to the boy's unwelcome shenanigans.  But when prince Loogar (or Loogie as his nanny calls him) tries to play a joke on the wizard, the wizard decides to put the arrogant young prince in his place once and for all.  Loogie is turned into a Genie only to be discovered hundreds of years later by a young boy, named Charlie, who shares Loogar's passion for playing pranks.  When Loogie becomes lodged in Charlie's nose, the two boys must work together to help break the wizard's spell and set Loogar free.

Loogie the Booger Genie, Prince of Prank is the first book in a series which is likely to be a big hit with young readers.  Author N.E. Castle has crafted a tale full of adventure and humor, laced with messages touching on compassion and character.  We highly recommend this book for young readers and we look forward to seeing future works by this promising author.

The Wicked Passage Earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval

We wish to recognize the literary talents of author, N.M. Singel, as we honor her book The Wicked Passage, with the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

13 year old Blake Wyatt is an ordinary teenager with a fairly ordinary life.  He doesn't much care for history class and he's seriously considering quitting the football team.

When Blake discovers he is the youngest descendant of the Sapphire Travelers, those with the ability to travel through time, things start spiraling out of control.   He quickly learns that his world is much bigger than he once thought it to be.   Ultimately he learns to take responsibility for his actions as he gains a greater appreciation for the things he once took for granted.

Wicked Passage intertwines the classic story of good verses evil along with a dose of history, plus the excitement of time travel thrown in for good measure.  This is a tale which will intrigue young readers while promoting good values and an appreciation for historical events.

The Wicked Passage comes highly recommended and earns our Seal of Approval.

Author Spotlight - Award Winning Author, Kathy Stemke

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING?
I’ve been writing officially for 4 years, but really all my life in one form or another.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN WRITING?
My first writings were in a poetic form designed to express my feelings. More recently I wanted to share my knowledge as a teacher for over 30 years with children, parents and other teachers.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR AWARD WINNING TITLE “Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep”?

My inspiration started with writing a rhyming couplet for each of 5 consonant blends as a teaching tool. Then I wove them into a story about a young boy who turned into a superhero and was determined to keep his new baby sister asleep. Each blend became a problem he had to solve. “Gr, gr, gr,” said the grizzly bear, huge and scary with his red hair.

IS “Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep” YOUR FIRST BOOK?
I’ve published three books to date and have several in the works. I’m also a contributor to two Gryphon House resource books for teachers.

I self-published my first book on Lulu, “Moving Through All Seven Days”. This book inspires movement as children learn about the days of the week. The lyrical rhymes also teach them how to spell each day. The activities are designed to reinforce the concepts as well as give impetus to movement exploration.

My next book titled, “Trouble on Earth Day” is a picture book and a resource book for teachers with 23 pages of crafts, songs, worksheets, and activities. This colorful picture book will facilitate dialog between parents, teachers, and children about conserving the Earth's natural resources.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW BOOKS IN THE WORKS?
“Winnie’s War,” my first young adult historical fiction, is underway. This is an important book for me because it is based on the life of my mother during WWII in the heavily bombed port city of Birkenhead, England. Three of her younger siblings were evacuated with millions of children. Her search to bring her family back together will bring the reader into the horrific, but sometimes humorous life of a teen during this agonizing war.

I just finished a resource book for teachers titled, “Spin, Swerve, and Swim: A Book of Songs to Get Kids Moving.” The subjects range from dinosaurs to polar bears and shapes to transportation. The tunes you know and the words will get your kids moving, learning, and having fun. This will be available on Teachers pay teachers.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF:
I’ve always had a passion for writing, the arts and all things creative. With a teaching degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a BS from Covenant Life Seminary, as well as graduate coursework from New York Institute of Technology and Columbia University, I taught for over 30 years. Hanging my hat in Mount Airy, Georgia I have been a dancer, choreographer, teacher, tutor, writer and an antiques dealer for many years.

As a freelance writer and ghostwriter, I have published over one hundred articles in directories, magazines and on websites. I’m a reviewer for Sylvan Dell Publishing and I have several activities published with Gryphon House Publishing.

TELL US SOMETHING OUR READERS MIGHT FIND FASCINATING ABOUT YOU:
Dance has always been an integral part of my life. I’ve taught dance to children and adults as well as choreographed pieces for Community Theater and churches.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Photography and poetry fill my spare time. In fact, I’ve put together a book titled, “Visual Dance Poetry” which combines dance poetry with dance photos.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW?
Of course, I love all musicals and dance movies. As far as TV is concerned, I love “Dancing with the Stars,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” and ‘America’s Best Dance Crew.”

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE AS AN AUTHOR?
Marketing my books is the most difficult challenge I face. The time and effort it takes to schedule school and library visits can be taxing. Getting your books to the right audience is the key.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER ASPIRING AUTHORS?
Read, read, and read. Get into a good critique group, and learn all you can from your peers, mentors and the many free on-line conferences available to you. Then write, rewrite and rewrite again to produce the best product you can. Selling articles to magazines and on-line websites is a great way to gain experience.

CAN YOU OFFER ANY TIPS ON GETTING PUBLISHED?
Research as many publishers as you can, and make sure they have published in your genre before. Talk to other authors about their experiences, and get the contract looked at by a legal advisor before you sign on the dotted line. Never pay to have your book published.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS?
Like just about every other professional, building relationships with other authors, editors, and publishers as well as paying-it–forward will prove to be your most valuable tool. You may just make friends all over the world which will definitely improve your quality of life.

Nature's Patchwork Quilt - an excellent tool for educators

Nature's Patchwork Quilt, Understanding Habitats, by Mary Miche is an excellent resource for educators.  This book touches on the scientific terms for various habitats in a way that is informative, interesting and educational.  A patchwork of lively illustrations provide excellent visual  interest which enhances this book's appeal even further.  The author has been an educator for years, and this is made apparent by the way in which she breaks down the subject matter for young readers, making it simple to understand the various habitats discussed within this book.

Over in the Forest: Come Take a Peek, by Marianne Berkes is the enchanting storybook rendition of the children's song bearing the same name.  Beautifully penned, the lyrical softness of this book creates a lovely sense of calm as readers count animal groupings from one to ten.

Illustrations, by Jill Dubin are perfectly paired with this book which would make a fabulous addition to any home or school library.

Author Spotlight - Nancy Stewart

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING? I’ve done scholarly writing my whole professional life.  I began writing for children about seven years ago.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN WRITING?
As a university professor teaching Children and Young Adult Literature, I always loved kids’ books!  About seven years ago, I became inspired to write a series of conservation books about two little girls called Bella and Britt.  As we have a condo right on the gulf, I found my ideas from long early morning walks along one of the most beautiful bodies of water in the world.  The rest is author’s history!

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR AWARD WINNING TITLES?
The inspiration behind One Pelican at a Time was the horrible gulf oil spill of 2010.  In seeing so many of the noble pelicans fishing in the mornings, it was natural to write a book about helping keep them safe, so it was Bella and Britt to the rescue. I have to say that my publisher, Lynda Burch, of Guardian Angel Publishing, saw the absolute importance of such a book and threw herself into it with such vigor and dedication, that Pelican was the first U.S. children’s book about the spill to be published. Sea Turtle Summer concerned the girls’ finding a mother Leatherback sea turtle on the beach and setting about to save her nest. But what a journey they undertake to do it!  More inspiration from living along such a magnificent but fragile body of water.

HAVE YOU PUBLISHED ANY OTHER BOOKS?
Katrina and Winter:  Partners in Courage was published by Guardian Angel Publishing in March, 2012.  The next two Bella and Britt books (Bella Saves the Beach and Mystery at Manatee Key) will arrive soon!

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW BOOKS IN THE WORKS?
The next two Bella and Britt books will be published soon.  Bella Saves the Beach will be launched within the next several months.  Mystery of Manatee Key, a real mystery where Britt alone has to solve the crime of missing manatees, as Bella and the ranger have been kidnapped!

Bella Saves the Beach will be launched within the next several months.  Mystery of Manatee Key, a real mystery where Britt alone has to solve the crime of missing manatees, as Bella and the ranger have been kidnapped!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF:
One of the most important aspects of my life are my three sons, two of whom are twins.  It’s remarkable how children shape who you are as well as you them. Having lived in London for ten years, I was a consultant to the University of Cambridge. I’ve been so fortunate to have literally traveled around the world and back again and strive for those experiences to flow through my books.  I have been a teacher of children and a university professor of education.  Besides writing every day, I speak at and attend writing conferences across the US.

TELL US SOMETHING THAT OUR READERS MIGHT FIND INTERESTING ABOUT YOU:
I adore orchids and cannot get enough of the sumptuous plants!  Luckily, Florida is a wonderful place for them, so they can easily be tucked into a shady spot outside.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
I thoroughly enjoy lunch and/or dinner with good friends.  Having taken a Cordon Bleu course in London, cooking is important to me.  My husband and I love to entertain and do so frequently.  Travel is crucial in my life.  Not only is it an expansive thing to do, it helps store away vignettes for books in a way, for me at least, nothing else can do.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW/MOVIE?
In terms of an hysterically funny film, I have to say The Producers is still my favorite.

HAS YOUR BOOK RECEIVED ANY OTHER AWARDS? (IF SO PLEASE LIST, IF NOT, LEAVE BLANK)
One Pelican at a Time received a Readers Favorite 5 Star Award.

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE AS AN AUTHOR?
For me the largest challenge is to stay fresh and timely no matter what genre I am happening to write.  By that I mean, the research has to be impeccable, the characters believable and authentic and the story tight.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER ASPIRING AUTHORS?
Don’t work in a vacuum.  Join a critique group and attend!  Write every day, and listen to your inner self as you do.  Be aware of how you write.  I’m convinced that awareness is the major way one develops and understands his/her “voice.”  Don’t fall in love with your own words.  What do I mean by that?  If a particular passage or paragraph is precious to you, and you cannot let it go, chances are it needs to go!  It may be too expository or grown-up for the story.  Not always, of course, but keep an open mind…And last:  Do not give up!  Those writers who have staying power are the ones who get published.  As simple and complex as that.

CAN YOU OFFER ANY TIPS ON GETTING PUBLISHED?
Know the genre that’s right for you.  Don’t follow market trends.  Remember, the trends that are out there now may not be in vogue by the time your book is finished, agented, edited and published, all of which can be two to three years…Write from your heart. Be authentic.  Above all, that’s what it takes to be published.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS?
Just a big thank you to all the readers out there.  It is you folks who not only keep us in business but keep ideas and ideals alive in the hearts and minds of the most important people on earth-children.

And a big thanks to Literary Classics International Book Awards for allowing me the opportunity to be in such august company!

Author Barbara Bockman, on her Award Winning Title - Fantastic Flight

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING? I began taking courses in children's writing over twenty years ago. It took me a few years to get up the courage to start submitting [my work to publishers].

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN WRITING? I was inspired to write by my love of reading and also by my love of the English language. In school, I was one of the few students who enjoyed parsing sentences and diagramming them. From Dick and Jane onward, I became an avid reader. One of my greatest joys in life is reading a well-written passage. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science (my first was in English), I realized as much as I love physical books and handling them, I love the stories even more.

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR AWARD WINNING TITLE, Fantastic Flight ? Fantastic Flight was inspired by an incident involving my husband and our granddaughter. He was kidding around with her and pretended her balloon was carrying him away. They were having such fun; and it became the germ for my story.

WE'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR OTHER PUBLISHED WORKS
My first published book is a middle grade e-novel, Wounds, published by MuseItUp Publishing.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW BOOKS IN THE WORKS? My work in progress is another middle grade novel, with the working title of RANIL AND THE BABY ELEPHANT, set in Sri Lanka. I can’t say when it will be available; it’s requiring a lot of research. I also have three other books under contract with Guardian Angel Publishing.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: I grew up in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina and I still love to visit there from my home in Florida. I married an Army Officer and we lived in various places in the US, Europe, and Japan. I have four children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. After my husband retired from the Army and we moved to Florida, I obtained my Masters Degree in English and taught at Pensacola Junior College.  I love to travel with my grandchildren. I took four of them to Alaska, three of them to Europe, two others to the UK and Ireland. When my granddaughter was an undergraduate, I went with her and her class to China one year and to Italy and Greece the next year. My head is still spinning.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME? My favorite hobby is raising butterflies. I grow the flowers that attract the females. The caterpillars eat those plants, so I supply other nectar flowers for the adult butterflies. The green chrysalis of the monarch, with its flecks of gold, is one of the most beautiful sights in nature. The butterflies most common in this part of Florida are monarchs, gulf fritillaries, zebra longwings, and various swallowtails.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SHOW? I like both Masterpiece Classics and Masterpiece Mystery and also dramas that do not involve forensics, such as White Collar. I suppose I’m a bit squeamish.

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE AS AN AUTHOR? My biggest challenge is procrastination. With so many projects to choose from, sometimes it’s hard to decide which to work on, so I put it off.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER ASPIRING AUTHORS? My advice to other aspiring authors is to write the kind of books you like to read, learn the craft, get to know your genre, join a critique group, and have faith in yourself.

CAN YOU OFFER ANY TIPS ON GETTING PUBLISHED? An author should study the market and make sure she is submitting her finest work to the right publishers.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS? I feel that writing for children is a moral responsibility [for me]. My hope is that all of my writing will be uplifting to my readers.

Author Richie Frieman on his award winning book, Terple Always Dream Bigger

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING? Children’s books, 5 years. Writing in general for 10.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN WRITING? I’ve always loved children’s books and always promised myself one day I’d not only write but illustrate my own original book. Finally, the concept and passion met at the same point and I did it.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND Terple - Always Dream Bigger? I’m a father of two and take my role as a parent incredibly seriously, especially when it comes to reminding kids to stay true to the dreams and never give up. I never settle for making my dreams come true, so it’s one thing to just dream, another to just dream BIG but I want my kids to aspire to always dream BIGGER!

IS THIS YOUR FIRST BOOK? [This is] My second children’s picture book. My first was called, Terple - The Sky Is Just The Start.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW BOOKS IN THE WORKS?  I’m also a manners and etiquette writer known as Modern Manners Guy. My new book Quick and Dirty Tips for Life After College (Macmillan Publishing) is now available in eBook on iTunes, Kindle and Nook!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: I’m 33 years old, a columnist, writer, entrepreneur, children’s clothing line owner and designer (Charm City Babies) and a former professional wrestler! Bet you weren’t expecting that. But it’s true.

TELL US SOMETHING INTERESTING THAT OUR READERS MIGHT FIND FASCINATING ABOUT YOU: Well, the fact that I was a professional wrestler, yes, like the kind of TV (my ring name was Buster Maccabi) for 8 and a half years and now writing/illustrating children’s books is pretty different I think.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME? My family comes first, so every free minute is devoted to my wife Jamie, daughter Maddy (4 years old) and newborn son, Cole (4 months old).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW/MOVIE? My favorite movie of all time is “Goonies”. I have it memorized. And as for TV, I love “Walking Dead”, “Hell on Wheels”, “Newsroom”, “Daily Show”, and “Parenthood”.

HAS YOUR BOOK RECEIVED ANY OTHER AWARDS?  “Terple - Always Dream Bigger” won the 2012 Gelett Burgess Award for best Poetry and Rhyming Children’s Book.

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE AS AN AUTHOR? Making sure you are able to get your book out there is the hardest part. I want children and parents to enjoy my work and [I] work hard every day to make more people aware of Terple.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER ASPIRING AUTHORS? Never stop. Never, ever, ever stop writing and trying. Nothing worth anything ever happens over night. This is a tough job to have but it’s a job of passion, so always keep trying.

CAN YOU OFFER ANY TIPS ON GETTING PUBLISHED? Make yourself visible. Join writing groups, network, and just do what you can to reach out to people.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS? I hope to bring attention to children’s books, especially picture books. I want people to be aware of the importance of childhood literacy and early education. Also, always feel free to reach out to me! Tweet me @RichieFrieman

Author Spotlight, Kristiana Gregory

AUTHOR'S NAME: Kristiana Gregory

TITLE OF AWARD WINNING BOOK: Stalked

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING?: My first historical novel, Jenny of the Tetons, was published in 1989 by Harcourt, but before that I was a book reviewer and columnist for the Los Angeles Times, and a newspaper reporter.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN WRITING?: At age ten I loved to make up whoppers, but my parents helped me channel that imagination into story-telling. My first rejection was at age eleven from Whitman Publishing Company for my poem, "Valentine's Day," which had been pencilled on notebook paper during math class. Now that I look back on it, hoping to get published was pretty brave for a kid! I had no idea it was to be the first of many hundreds of rejections.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR AWARD WINNING TITLE, STALKED?:     When I learned that my Danish great-grandfather spent much of his life in an insane asylum in Wisconsin, my mind raced. How did this young man hoping for a new beginning in America end up "criminally insane?" What was he like when he stepped off the ship from Copenhagen and how did he get by the strict medical examiners on Ellis Island?

After visits to this Island of Tears and several years of research and writing, my story is finished. This young adult novel didn't turn out as I had originally planned.  --Fellow writers, I know you understand this!  --But it was birthed by those questions of how and why. Coupled with family lore that my great-grandmother worked in the Danish royal palace before immigrating to America, well, here we are! The setting is 1912, in the Lower East Side tenements of New York City. Cover art and interior illustrations are by my son, Cody Rutty

HAVE YOU PUBLISHED ANY OTHER BOOKS ?
Yes, thirty-plus titles are listed here

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW BOOKS IN THE WORKS?
I'm finishing #7 of the Cabin Creek Mysteries series, for readers ages 7-10. The Phantom of Hidden Horse Ranch will be available early 2013. Details will be on my Amazon author site.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: I grew up in Manhattan Beach, California two blocks from the ocean but have lived in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and now Idaho, so you could say I'm a Western girl. My husband I have been married 31 years and we have two adult sons, two golden retrievers, and a ton of books! Every morning I read the Bible in French. My website with more info is:  www.kgregorybooks.com

TELL US SOMETHING FUN THAT OUR READERS MIGHT FIND FASCINATING ABOUT YOU: When I was a ski bum in Mammoth Lakes, California, early 1970s, I was an extra in the movie, "The Other Side of the Mountain," which was being filmed in part on the sunny ski slopes there. My girlfriend and I were eating dinner in a restaurant bragging to a nice man about how we were in the movie and blablablabla. He bought us some drinks and listened to our boasts. The next morning when she and I showed up on the set, we saw this gentleman talking to the film crew. He was the star, Beau Bridges!

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?  Hanging out with family and friends, walking our big furry dogs, reading, daydreaming. I'm a swimmer, too.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW OR MOVIE?: Favorite movies: "Amadeus," "Dave." TV series: "West Wing," "Doc Martin."

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE AS AN AUTHOR?: Loneliness and discouragement. Now and then I muse about life as an author here.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER ASPIRING AUTHORS?: Every person has a unique story that only s/he can tell. If it's in your heart, write it down and don't give up.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS?: Writing every day is like a musician practicing scales. The daily effort hones the craft, ultimately--and hopefully--creating a work of beauty.

My Sister is my Best Friend - A Trilingual Story

My Sister is my Best Friend - a trilingual story written primarily in English, with secondary and tertiary texts in French and Spanish, is a terrific book which provides a fun way to introduce kids to foreign language.

Twin sisters who are also each others' best friends enjoy playing, pretending make-believe, exploring . . . and more; all in the comfort of the loving relationship they share with one another.

Author, Nicole Weaver, who teaches French and Spanish in high school,  has written a book that is as much a joy to read as it is educational in its content.  Colorful illustrations are a great addition to this charming book.

My Sister is my Best Friend earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Bella and Harry, Let's Visit Cairo, is our latest Seal of Approval Recipient

Bella and Harry, two Chihuahua siblings with the distinct privilege of travelling the world via their owners, have embarked on yet another exciting journey.  This time, they take us to Cairo, where we are introduced to such historical sights as the Sphinx, the Valley of Kings, and King Tut's tomb.

Author Lisa Manzione teams up with illustrator Kristine Lucco in another book in their dynamic series which is equally as entertaining as it is educational.

The book includes the alphabet in hieroglyphs, offering a fun and interactive way to explore a bit of Egyptian culture.  As always, these books inspire a love for travel while educating and broadening horizons for young readers. The Bella and Harry books are excellent as stand alone book selections, or would be especially rewarding as a collection.

Be prepared to get a new stamp in your passport, because Bella and Harry are taking us on another fabulous travel adventure around the world.  This time, our lovable Chihuahua friends invite us to tag along as they experience the sights and flavors of Greece.  Pack your bags, because these pet Chihuahuas, who have the great privilege of traveling the world with their owners, are taking us on a tour of the ancient city of Athens . . . with a quick jaunt to the island of Crete.

We are becoming only slightly jealous of these two world traveling Chihuahuas.  But all that aside, if we can't be there in person, we're confidant there's no better way to experience the world than through the eyes of these endearing pets.

The Bella and Harry Series is a terrific introduction to travel for youngsters.  Each book is terrific as a stand-alone, and as a set, they are magnificent.  Illustrations by Kristine Lucco, add further insight and dimension to these books which are educational and entertaining.

A Must Read For Every Aspiring Young Comedian

Ahhh...  This book could have been something different.  But it was not.  It could have been harsh, abrasive and "in-your-face".  Again, it was not. Author David Smithyman uses just the right amounts of humor, satire, and honest-to-goodness straight-talk in this book which was created for teens who want to do stand up comedy.  Most notable, and much appreciated, is the occasional reminder to be sensitive to others when telling a joke -- that jokes at your own expense are acceptable... at the expense of others, not so much.  Also, the author does not talk down to his audience.  He treats his readers very much like young adults.  His humor and wit is ever-present in this book which is a delight to read.  --Oh, and he provides great tips on how to write a humorous punch-line.  This book comes highly recommended.

And before you start thinking, 'those who can't . . . teach', you might want to take a look at Mr. Smithyman's bio.  He, and his collaborators on this book have a pretty impressive track-record of success in the world of comedy.

Bravo!

Shield Maiden Earns our Seal of Approval

Shield Maiden, by author Richard Denning, is an exciting children's chapter book which takes place in a Saxon village in 7th century Mercia.  Denning's characters come to life in this mythological adventure, the story of a 12 year old girl who finds a golden horn in the ruins of a Roman villa.

Shield Maiden, the first book in the Nine World's Series, will hold great appeal for youngsters, regardless of their knowledge or understanding of Norse mythology; and kids interested in magic or fantasy are certain to appreciate the story of the Shield Maiden.

Brief explanations of some of the Norse mythological characters are included at the conclusion of the story, adding a greater understanding of some of the events which take place in this exciting story.

We recommend Shield Maiden for general reading, and as an educational tool to help youngsters gain insight and understanding into Nordic Mythology.

Shield Maiden earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Stalked, by Kristiana Gregory, earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval

Author Kristiana Gregory has spun an elaborate tale in her most recent book, Stalked.  This story of a fifteen year old Danish immigrant has readers quickly immersed in suspense as our young heroine is forced to fend for herself in a country where everything, including the language, is foreign to her.

During her ocean voyage to America, young Rikke encounters a man whose intentions are clearly dishonorable.  She manages to escape his attempts to force her into becoming his traveling companion, only to face immeasurable set-backs in her plans to ultimately be re-united with her father who waits for her in Wisconsin.

Ms. Gregory has painted a fascinating picture portraying the tenacity of early 20th century immigrants in the Americas. The characters and their stories come alive through interesting details and the thoughtful reflections of young Rikke as she corresponds with distant friends and loved ones.

This book is sure to capture and enthrall the imagination of young readers while igniting interest in the history of the early 1900's.

Stalked earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval, a designation reserved for those books which uphold the rigorous criteria set forth by the Children's Literary Classics review committee, a team comprised of individuals with backgrounds in publishing, editing, writing, illustration and graphic design.

Beautiful Wild Rose Girl Earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Why is it that beautiful girls allow others to tear down their self confidence?  The book, Beautiful Wild Rose Girl speaks to young girls on this subject.

A beautiful girl lives in a swamp where the toads tell her over and over again that she is a stupid, ugly girl.  Having heard this so many times, she comes to accept the toads' mocking jeers as the truth.

What she doesn't realize is that all the people in the village nearby refer to her as the 'Beautiful Wild Rose Girl.'  When would-be suitors speak to her, referring to her as the Beautiful Wild Rose Girl, all she hears is stupid, ugly girl and she lowers her eyes sadly, saying nothing.  --Thinking they couldn't possibly deserve such a beautiful girl, the men just walk away, feeling dejected.

Finally, when a young man falls madly in love with the girl . . . something magical happens.

Beautiful Wild Rose Girl is a touching story with an important message of love and acceptance of one's self.  There is a lovely melancholy feeling to this story which is told in a style reminiscent of the old fairy tale classics.  Little girls will find many questions, and even more answers within the pages of this heart-warming book which has an enchanting, happily-ever-after ending.

Beautiful Wild Rose Girl is available in a Japanese stab-binding silk hard-cover, or in a soft-bound Japanese stab-binding cover.  With its beautiful presentation, along with the empowering message of encouragement tucked within its pages, this book would make a wonderful heirloom gift for a baby shower, as a gift for a God-child or for any other occasion.
