The Hollow in the Hill, by Karen Chacek, earns the CLC Seal of Approval

Little Habicht is a skinny, wide-eyed hawk.  He's definitely not the coolest, and by no means the toughest, but he may arguably be the bravest hawk in his school.  Because one day Habicht decided to stand up to the three biggest bullies around.  To prove his fearlessness, the bullies talked Habicht into going to the most dangerous and fearful place imaginable.  But when the four young hawks are inadvertently stranded alone in the creepiest valley in the kingdom, Habicht's bravery is put to the ultimate test.

Karen Chacek's The Hollow in the Hill is a children's picture book which addresses the issues of friendship and bullying in a way that will give young readers lots to ponder.  Lovely illustrations help make this a book which kids will want to return to again and again.  The Hollow in the Hill is highly recommended and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Karmack, by J.C. Whyte, earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval

Sully is the "Big Cheese" of the 5th grade and the greatest bully of his trio of elementary school thugs.  But he and his hoodlum buddies have finally tipped the karmic scale and Sully comes face to face with karma incarnate when Karmack, a whimsical and lovable little character, appears on the scene to set things straight.  Now whenever Sully or his cohorts bully it comes back to them in full karmic force.  When Karmack reveals that doom awaits Sully and his friends if they do not stop bullying, things begin to take an interesting turn at Higgins Elementary School. 

Karmack is a captivating pre-teen fantasy and author J.C. Whyte has created a strong cast of characters that are well developed and quite likable.  As the story progresses, the suspense builds to a delightful outcome that is sure to keep readers anticipating Whyte's next round of literary treasures.  We look forward to seeing more from this author.

Losing It, by Erin Fry, earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval

Every once in a while you come across a book this good... 

Losing It is the story of a young boy who shares his dad's passion for baseball and junk food.  But when his father suffers a stroke, Bennett is forced to move in with his aunt and her family.  Bennett resents his situation almost as much as he resents his meddling aunt and her health-nut-tendencies.  But he soon comes to realize that his poor eating habits, paired with his aversion to exercise, will not help him to live a happy and productive life.  

Genuine characters bring this story to life as young Bennett learns to find his inner strength along with the drive to succeed in ways he never dreamed were possible. You'll find yourself cheering for the "fat boy" as this unlikely hero conquers his weaknesses and fears and learns that sometimes it's OK to come in last.

Author, Erin Fry, has succeeded in creating a truly magnificent work of youth fiction.   Losing It is a triumph and a must-read for young audiences!
