Sweet T and the Turtle Team earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval

Tara, along with her baby sister and their mom, have gone to stay with great aunt Mae in North Carolina. The nine-year-old’s big sister is back at home with their dad and she’s certain she’ll be bored without the companionship of her older sibling.  But her concerns are soon overshadowed when Tara learns of an impending storm.  It’s turtle nesting season on Gull Island and Tara is worried what will become of the hatchlings when a tropical storm threatens to harm the island’s tiny inhabitants.

My Pancakes Taste Different Today! by Heather Wood Galpert and Bruce Galpert, earns the CLC Seal of Approval

Young Ethan always eats pancakes before he goes fishing.  One morning after thanking his mother for making him the "best pancakes in the world," his mother explains to him that he should also thank the farmer and the lakes and streams and every other person, creature and entity involved in helping create the goods that went into making his pancakes.  That day, with a grateful heart, as Ethan goes on his fishing outing he does just that.  But at the end of his day he does something, unbeknownst to him, that would cause a catastrophic chain reaction of events.  As a result, the next time his mother makes his pancakes he can't help but notice they taste different.

My Pancakes Taste Different Today! is a terrific book for teaching young readers about the delicate eco-system in which we live.  Children will learn, along with Ethan, how one small and seemingly innocent act can have long term detrimental effects on earth.  As Ethan realizes his blunder he sets to work righting a wrong and invites his friends to join him in making his community a better place for all who live there.

Tyler the Fish Saves Lake Erie, by author Meaghan Fisher earns the CLC Seal of Approval

Tyler the Fish Saves Lake Erie, by author Meaghan Fisher, is the story of a young fish who comes to the rescue.  One day as Tyler and his pal Jimmy are playing tag, they discover some barrels filled with toxic sludge at the bottom of the lake.  Tyler devises a clever plan to help save the lake and, with the help of his friends, they succeed in cleaning up Lake Erie.

Tyler the Fish will inspire youngsters to help do their part in keeping our environment clean and safe, while reminding them that no matter how small they are they can make a difference.  Illustrations by Sandra Burns are a lovely addition to this children's picture book that is recommended as an educational tool for teachers and librarians.
