Growing up with an autistic sibling has its ups and downs.
Donald, Heidi's 16-year-old brother, still likes to play at the park with his little sister. At
other times eleven-year-old Heidi gets tired of looking out for her big brother. But it seems especially unfair when her friends start treating
her differently because of her brother's differences. It's hard enough
knowing what to do when kids bully Donald, but now her classmates seem
to be turning on her too.
Author D.G. Driver's No One Needed to Know touches
on many of the issues encountered by siblings of special needs kids. A book
which will appeal to a broad audience, readers of all ages will appreciate
Heidi's story. Those from all spectrums can benefit from Heidi's
perspective. The good, the bad and the downright ugly moments, in which
Heidi tries to deal with her situation, all add up to make this book an engaging read that is
recommended for home and school libraries and for use in clinical
settings.
